William J. Coombs, age 90 of Hamilton, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 as a result of complications from a motor vehicle accident while performing volunteer work. William was born in Somerville, Ohio on May 22, 1933 to Stanley and Anna Mae (Luke) Coombs. He graduated from McGuffey High School in Oxford, Ohio and later went on to serve in the United States Army for 2 years at Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Hood, Texas. He married JoAnn Jewell on January 22, 1955, who preceded him in death in 2014. William worked at the Ford Motor Company in Cincinnati for more than 35 years. He was a 50+ years member of the Knights of Pythias and a member of the Darrtown United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. William was a volunteer fireman for many years with the Milford Township Fire Department and served as a Boy Scout leader for youth in the community. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeye fan. William loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and performing volunteer work.
William is survived by his three children, Vicki J. Coombs (Carlos Armaza) of Maryland; Stephen W. (Melody) Coombs of Pennsylvania; and Kristi J. Coombs of Florida; two grandchildren, Thomas S. (Amy) Coombs and Jaymie L. (Sean) Dickson; five great-grandchildren, Braylen, Mackenzie, Addyln, Layla and Brantley; brother, Richard S. Coombs of Collinsville; sister-in-law, Donna (Shawn) Gallagher; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. William is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn; his parents; his brother, Jack A. Coombs; sisters-in-law, Ersie and Betty Coombs, Barbara Jewell, and Melva Ward; brothers-in-law, Paul L. Jewell and George Jewell; and his in-laws, Paul M. and Myrtle Jewell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave, Hamilton, OH 45013. Funeral services will be held the following morning at Darrtown United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Chris Trumbull officiating. Burial will follow at Darrtown Cemetery. In leu of flowers, donations may be made to the Darrtown United Methodist Church (mission projects), 4309 Walnut Street, Oxford, Ohio 45056, or to the Milford Township Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 55, Collinsville, Ohio 45004.
