Wilma (Cornett) Proffitt

Wilma (Cornett) Proffitt, age 88 of Hamilton passed away at Otterbein Retirement Community on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 8:05 PM. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky on September 26, 1921 the daughter of James Foster and Lillie B. (Nicholson) Cornett. Wilma was employed in the payroll department at Hamilton Foundry for 27 years, retiring in 1977; she then was later employed by Ft. Hamilton Hospital until her retirement in 1987. She attended Otterbein Methodist Church.

She is survived by three children, Willa Patterson of Trenton, Russell (Helen) Proffitt of Crittenden, Kentucky, and Wayne (Lizbeth) Proffitt of Oxford; two sisters, Thelma Cornett of Indianapolis, Indiana and Marcella Taylor of Jeffersonville, Indiana; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rovie L. Proffitt in 1983; one brother, James Harold Cornett; one sister, Chesney Faye Garrison; and a son-in-law, Don Patterson.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Barb Schnecker, Assistant Pastor of Otterbein Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
