Donald “Don” Koenig, age 89 of Seven Mile, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Don was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 2, 1931 to Frank Koenig and Juliana Fodor Koenig. He was a graduate of Hamilton Township High School and the Ohio State University with a degree in agriculture. Don served in the United States Air Force in Japan from 1954 to 1956. On January 31, 1954 he married Jenny Grell. Don was employed in management by American Standard in Columbus, United Aircraft Products in Forrest, Ohio and Mosler Safe in Hamilton, retiring in 1993. Don’s hobbies included gardening and being the “fixer” for the family. With his ingenuity and a few tools, he could design, repair or build almost anything. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and long weekends at his second home on Indian Lake.
Don is survived by his wife, Jenny Koenig; daughter, Kathy (Jim) Wiegand of Hamilton; son, Tom (Susan) Koenig of Plain City, Ohio; grandchildren, Meg Wiegand, Matt (Amanda) Wiegand, Sam (Lindsay) Koenig, Andrew (Bree) Koenig, and Jacob Koenig; great grandson, Xander Wiegand. Don was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Caryl Fansler.
Funeral services will be held at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 Broad St., Galloway, Ohio on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jim Stevanus officiating. Burial to follow. Social distancing protocol will be followed and masks are required. In lieu of flowers, charity of choice.
