She was born in Dayton, Ohio on September 12, 1919 the daughter of Paul and Fredricka (Koch) Pumilia. After graduating from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, she began her life of service as a registered nurse there. On March 21, 1942 in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Louis J. "Lou" Hamann, in a ceremony performed by brother-in-law, Fr. Edwin Hamann. Her service journey continued at Black Clawson and United Aircraft as the director of nursing until her husband returned from the war in 1945.
She was a beloved mother and grandmother to her 9 children and 22 grandchildren: Pamela (Vernon) Long of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Edward (Marjie) Hamann of Cincinnati – Christine (Rick) Voegele, Eddie (Martha) Hamann and Andrew (Bethany) Hamann; Michael (late wife Barbara) Hamann of Hamilton; Mayor Mary Hamann-Roland (late husband Tim) (fiancé John Glynn) of Apple Valley, MN – Gabrielle (Dustin) Thompson, Stefani, Tara and David Roland; Paul Hamann of Hamilton – Paul Ryan and Jason (Melissa) Hamann; John (Cindy) Hamann of Liberty Township – Matthew, Amanda and Joseph (Jessica) Hamann; David (Pam) Hamann – Katie, Madeleine, Thomas and Olivia; Duane (Bobbi) Hamann – Brynn and Brooke; Teresa (Michael) Coughlin – Michael II, Alayna, Alexa and Mitchell.
