Gary Shepard Obituary

Gary Shepard, age 80 of Collinsville, passed away on March 31, 2021. Gary was born to Martin and Mayme Shepard on August 8, 1940. He is survived by his children; Chris (Melissa) Shepard, Mark (K.C.) Shepard, Missy (Steve) Finan; Grandchildren; Mark Shepard and Aria Finan; a sister Sherry Kerby; a brother Steve (Anna) Shepard and a special nephew Shawn (Mandy) Clapper. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Marty Shepard.

Gary entered the United States Marine Corps at age 17. During his time there he was in special forces such as infantry and force recon. After his beloved time in the Marines, he explored many different careers. Gary worked in construction with his friends, owned a tree nursery with his family, built friendships at Mosler Safe company, and helped create roller coasters at Kings Island.

Gary found his real niche in the bar business. He started with the Wayside Inn, and then moved on to own the Golden Key Lounge. Both bars were exponential to the community. There were many bike runs, benefits and charity events that helped people in need. There were also many great musical acts that got their start playing at the Golden Key.

Gary liked to spend his time in nature. He was an experienced botanist and knew the names of many plants. He liked good bluegrass music, trail walking, talking with friends, and eating home-cooked food.  He was a generous man who tried to help everyone he came in contact with. The world was blessed to know him. He will be missed as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

We will have a celebration of life for Gary at the Golden Key Lounge at a future date chosen by the family. Please view https://www.facebook.com/GoldenKeyLounge for updates.
