Patty McCartney Obituary

Patty R. McCartney, age 93 of Hamilton, passed away at Westover Assisted Living on February 13, 2021.  Patty was born in Hamilton, OH on August 23, 1927 to Alfred Vogel and Rose (Wimmer) Vogel.  On August 25, 1951 Patty married Thomas W. McCartney Jr., who preceded her in death 2004. She graduated from Hamilton High in 1945 and continued her education at Good Samaritan School of Nursing.  Patty was always known for her gift of caring for others.  She worked as a Public Health nurse in Hamilton, an ER nurse at Mercy Hospital and as a nurse for several doctors in Hamilton.  She also was an integral part of Schroeder Manor’s startup when she began working as an RN in the medical and geriatric units.  Patty continued her career at Westover as a RN until she finally retired at age 72.

Along with dedicating her life to helping others, she enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, The Reds, family gatherings, social events such as the dances with the Starlighters Dance Club as well as  other dance clubs, bingo and  Bridge Club.  Holidays with the family were extra special to her.  She was always a supporter of the arts, faithfully attending Rotary Revels and The Hamilton Civic Theater productions.  In her later years, she enjoyed going to The Elements for exercise, swimming three days a week, dancing and going with the Westover gang to Reds’ games, Casinos and many other road trips.

A very devoted spouse during Tom’s time with eye issues, she transported him to Cincinnati, Michigan and Louisiana trying to find relief and eyesight for him.  She drove him every day to Fairfield Pharmacy so that he could continue to work after he had sold his own Lindenwald Pharmacy.

St. Peter in Chains Church in Hamilton was her respite to pray and to continue her devotion to her Catholic faith.  Sewing vestments for missionary priests became a passion for her as well as volunteering for Friday night Bingo at the church.

As much as Patty gave of herself to others, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was always ready for her daily update on who did what.

Patty is survived by her children, Thomas W. McCartney III, Michelle Jeffres, Mike (Cassie) McCartney; grandchildren Lauren (Phil) Sebben, Jonathon (Bryanna) McCartney, Devin (Rik) Jeffres-Patenaude and Courtney Jeffres; step-grandchildren, Austin (Stephanie) Cousino and Allyson (Patrick) Cousino-Smith; great-grandchildren, Aviahna, Levi, Naomi, Evelyn, Nathan, Paige and Ashton; sister-in –laws, Rita Hopkins and Irene Vogel; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Patty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Thomas W. McCartney Jr.; daughter-in-law Tammy McCartney; son-in-law Stephen Jeffres; sister Kathryn and husband John Dunphy; brother James A. Vogel; brother William Vogel and his wife Betty Jane Vogel.

A special thanks goes out to the Administrative Staff, Nursing Staff, Aides and Staff at Westover for their excellent and wonderful care and compassion toward Patty.  A special recognition goes out to Heartland Hospice for the quality care they provided.
