Philip Charles Benes

Philip Charles Benes, age 65 of Hanover Township, passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Monday, December 14, 2020. Philip was born in Hinsdale, Illinois on February 24, 1955 to Charles Henry Benes and Florence Ludwiga Dvorak Benes.

Phil was the Director of Technology and Product Development of Nease Company. He was an American Cichid Association (ACA) Fellow and ACA Chairman of the Board of Trustees for 7 terms. When he wasn't attending or helping plan events for the ACA or his local fish club, he enjoyed fishing for walleye in Wisconsin and Canada, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by friends throughout the country and abroad. Phil was an expert fish keeper, fierce friend, and devoted family man.  He lived a full life with Janet, the love of his life, at his side. 

Philip is survived by his wife for just shy of 46 years, Janet Benes; children, Christopher (Susan) Benes and Nicole Benes; granddaughters, Amelia, Grace, and Rosalyn; siblings, Geoffrey (Penne) Benes, and Patricia (Lorne) Sawatzky. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence Benes.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave, Hamilton, Ohio. Prayer service will follow at 4:00 PM with Fr. James Wedig officiating.  Burial will take place at Millville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cichlid Association’s Paul V. Loiselle Conservation Fund or the Guy Jordan Fund for Cichlid Research, cichlid.org donations link under Store tab.
