William H. Halcomb

June 10, 1927 — March 8, 2011

William H. Halcomb, age 83 of Hamilton passed away in his residence on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 8:08 PM. He was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on June 10, 1927 the son of John and Mintie (Browning) Halcomb. William was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army from 1945 to 1947, was a member of Paducah Avenue Baptist Church, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was employed as a press operator for Fisher Body for 33 years, retiring in 1988. On May 1, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky he was married to Sarah Mullins.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Halcomb of Hamilton; two daughters, Joan (Rev. William) Southard of Hamilton and Vickie (Leston) Elliott of Milford; two brothers, Floyd and Dennis Halcomb, both of Somerset, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Lori, Jessica, Brandon, Holly, and Brooke; and also 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Para Robertson in 2007; two brothers, Chester and Thurston; and three sisters, Maude Jones, Olla Griffin, and Daphne Halcomb.

Funeral services will be held at the Paducah Avenue Baptist Church, 6859 Paducah Avenue, on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Darrell Preston and Rev. William Southard officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Pater Avenue Pentecostal Church of God, 1321 Pater Avenue, on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family requests memorials to the Paducah Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Scott Kotzin and staff and to Dr. Edward Crane and staff and to Hospice of Cincinnati for their loving care and concern.
